Two creatures wander into existence. playfully, they explore their relation to the space, themselves and each other.
‘beingsbeingbeings’ (2024) was a dance performance piece by myself and artist Julia van Ravenstein. I was responsible for the choreography and dramaturgical decisions, Julia was responsible for the costume design and development.
The piece explores the limitations and possibilities brought on by an altered physique. The costumes are heavy and both performers are partly masked entering the stage as two surreal and alien beings. The performers explore and develop their own movement qualities and eventually join together to continue their exploration. ‘beingsbeingbeings’ was inspired by dream worlds and the balance between physical reality and personal autonomy.
‘beingsbeingbeings’ was performed in 2024 at the 39Graden Festival and the opening of the Breda History Month both in Podium Bloos in Breda, The Netherlands.
